Biography

My name is Brad Lhotsky. I am Network Security professional working for Health & Human Services. I’ve been a part of the technical and managerial side of Network Security. I don’t particularly enjoy the managerial side as there’s a dangerous distance from the technical side of computing.

On the technical side, I’ve been learning about programming and networking from friends and co-workers since 1999. I started programming Perl then, and I’ve never really looked back. My intention is to continue to become more active in the community and this blog is another step in that direction.

I became active on Perlmonks in 2001. I published my first and only CPAN module, Parallel::ForkControl in December 2003. I started writing articles for Developer.com in 2004. I went to my first YAPC::NA in 2006.

I’ve done a fair share of UNIX System Administration. I prefer Linux, but welcome BSD. I’ve been using Apple Computers since 1999. I’ve always been an advocate of using systems that work for you. I’ve found that Linux & Mac are more representative of my needs in computing. Articles may slant away from MS Windows as a by-product of my relative inexperience with it.
